If there’s one thing I can’t stand about Internet marketing, it’s websites with ads that obscure content with pop-ups every 10 seconds. These websites are becoming increasingly prevalent on social media sites such as Facebook, where webmasters who advertise their websites do not risk being penalised by a search engine, which would cause them to lose their website’s ranking positions, their traffic, and their revenue.
However, websites that like to bombard their visitors with ads lose quite a lot, and that’s what I’m going to go over in the next few sections of this article.
Websites With Ads That Obscure Content Lose Traffic
If I’m on a website where I wanted to read about celebrity news and the article is constantly being covered by pop-up ad after pop-up ad. Nobody wants to stay on a website that won’t even let them read what they came there for, so they’ll just click the back button and go back to what they were doing before, increasing your bounce rate in the process and lowering the number of repeat visitors your website has.
Websites With Ads That Obscure Content Lose Revenue
In addition to visitors who may have clicked on your ads leaving your website, blasting pop-up ads on your site to cover content in hopes that a user accidentally clicks on the ads is no way to get a conversion. In the case of pay-per-click advertising, where an advertiser pays for each click they receive on their ads, an advertiser will not want to advertise on your website once they realise none of their clicks are leading to conversions.
Websites With Ads That Obscure Content Lose The Chance To Become An Authority
While an authority website takes longer to build than a churn and burn SEO or an ad-smeared social media website, the revenue from them is much more consistent and you have the potential of expanding that website.
If you’re the operator of one of these websites, please do us all a favour consider a different career.
