How To Add Reviews To Your WordPress Website

I was doing some research for what I am hoping will be a new contract position for us, and during this research, I noticed that this potential client had reviews on their website. Now ordinarily this great, but an issue I spotted is that the reviews were in regular old text on a testimonials page.

What’s wrong with this, you ask? Well you see, most customers going to your website aren’t going to trust reviews that could’ve easily been written by you. I mean, it’s not very difficult for me to make a testimonials page here on Sycosure and write “Alistair is the most amazing, talented web developer, highly recommended – Abigail Jenson, Los Angeles, CA”. You see the problem, right?

So how should you post reviews on your website? The answer to this is simple: you embed them.

Sycosure has a single Google review from a client who eventually became my friend, but unfortunately, passed away several years ago. He left an outstanding review back in 2015 that I personally feel reflects how I work with my clients to this day. If I wanted to embed my reviews, I’d first need both the platform this website is using and where I want these reviews displayed.

In my case, this is a WordPress website, so the solution is as easy as getting a plugin like “Widgets for Google Reviews“. I tried “Plugin For Google Reviews”, but it couldn’t find my business name for some reason. To be fair, my business’ address isn’t shown because I set it up that way, so it’s possible that was causing the issue.

Anyway, from there, I just grabbed the URL for my Google Maps listing, pasted it when the plugin asked, and after going through several easy steps with the plugin, I got an embed code. From there, I created a reviews page and added the embed code to it. It was that easy!

As I was writing this, I actually created a reviews page for Sycosure following what I wrote above. Check it out here!
